Blueair launches CabinAir to develop Air purification solutions for vehicles

Stockholm, 01 January 2016. Blueair, a world-leader in air purification solutions, today launched CabinAir to meet increasing consumer demand for clean air in cars, trucks and other road vehicles. The company is based in Stockholm, Sweden.

The company’s in-vehicle air purification solutions are based on Blueair’s 20 years of experience developing state-of-the art air purifiers for home and professional use. The solutions’ two-stage technology will combine the effect of an optimized mechanical filter with active particle charging technology.

Recent research proves that 72% of people in China are worried about the air quality in their car. The same number, 72% of people asked, also said that they are aware of the negative health effects of breathing polluted air, according to a survey carried out for Blueair by independent UK research firm Bonamy Finch.

“We see a strong, unmet consumer need for clean air,” says Mehmet Altinok, CEO of Blueair. “Air pollution levels soar in our key markets and pollution concerns are growing worldwide, particularly in Asia and the Middle-East. As a result, we are expanding our air purification expertise and best-in-class technology to a new segment, with the objective of improving the health and well-being of even more people.”

In-vehicle air more polluted

Studies show that the air inside vehicles can be more polluted than outside. “The poor indoor air quality is caused by exhaust from the driver’s vehicle and other vehicles in combination with tire and road wear products, which enter the car through ventilation systems,” explains Daniel Hagström, CEO of Blueair CabinAir. “Air quality can also be made worse by VOCs from cleaning products and off-gassing from carpets and upholstery.”

He adds that the timing is good for the launch, as people are spending longer hours traveling to and from work and school, exposing themselves to nitrogen oxides, black carbon and ultrafine particulate matter, which in turn impacts health.
