CabinAir wins another prestige deal with a premium European OEM for Active Air Cleaner solution

Stockholm 9 September 2022 – Starting in 2025, another of the leading international automotive groups will launch CabinAir’s Active Air Cleaner solution in large numbers globally.

“The automotive industry is taking in-cabin air quality more and more seriously,” says Daniel Hagström, CabinAir CEO and co-founder. “We are very proud to have been chosen to be a volume supplier to one of the top brands in the industry. It’s proof that we are doing things right, both for the car-driving population and from a business and technology perspective.”

Healthier in-cabin air and more alert drivers
CabinAir’s Active Air Cleaner solution is based on a patented two-stage technology. This technology gives pollution particles an electrical charge as they enter the system, making them “stickier,” so they can be trapped in a filter much more effectively than in a passive filter-only system. “With this combination, our technology up to 15 times more effective at removing harmful ultra-fine particles than standard filters,” Hagström continues. On top of that, tests carried out by Guangzhou Institute of Microbiology show that our solution removes 99.97% of airborne bacteria as well as viruses similar in size as SARS-CoV-2. Also, since our solution cleans the air before it gets inside the cabin, drivers can enjoy a constant flow of fresh and clean air.”

Traditional systems need to recirculate the air in the car to reach acceptable low levels of particulates. As air is recirculated, though, oxygen levels in the car decrease and CO2 levels increase, which can cause the driver to become drowsy and react more slowly.

“With recirculated air, as in traditional systems, unhealthy levels* of CO2 can be reached in just 15 minutes with a family of four in the car,” Hagström says. “Our technology can contribute to reducing traffic accidents by helping keep drivers more alert.”

Already on the roads
For several years, CabinAir technology has been on the road in Volvo Cars, some of the world’s most highly regarded vehicles in terms of driver and passenger health and safety. It is an integral part of Volvo Cars’ Advanced Air Cleaner (AAC) system.

“And soon, with a new OEM contract signed, more drivers and passengers will be able to breathe healthy air inside their vehicles”, Hagström says.

Awarded technology
In January 2022, CabinAir was named a CES® 2022 Innovation Awards Honoree for its Connected Health Zone System, which consists of CabinAir Active Air Cleaner solutions combined with best-in-class sensors and AI processed air quality data, that can also display air quality and guide drivers to healthy in-cabin air quality in all traffic conditions.
