CabinAir named CES® 2022 Innovation Awards Honoree for “Outstanding design and engineering”

Stockholm, Stockholm, 15 December 2021 – CabinAir, which makes advanced air purification systems for vehicles, has been named a CES® 2022 Innovation Awards Honoree for its Connected Health Zone System. This year’s CES Innovation Awards program received a record high number of over 1800 submissions. The announcement was made ahead of CES 2022, the world’s most influential technology event, happening Jan. 5-8 in Las Vegas, NV and digitally.

The annual award program recognizes “outstanding design and engineering” in a variety of consumer technology product categories. Honorees are the highest rated in each category.

The Stockholm, Sweden-based start-up’s technology for in-cabin air purification improves the health, safety and well-being of drivers and passengers of all types of vehicles, including buses and trucks. “We believe the air you breathe inside your vehicle should be as fresh and clean as you’d find in a Swedish forest,” says Daniel Hagström, CabinAir co-founder and CEO.

How does it work?
CabinAir is a spinoff of Blueair, which for decades has been one of the world’s leading producers of air-purification solutions for home and professional use. Like Blueair’s air purifiers, CabinAir’s solutions combine particle charging technology with optimized mechanical filtration. The charging device gives airborne particles an electrical charge, making them “stickier,” so they get trapped in the filter much more effectively.

“We believe everyone should have healthy air wherever they go, also inside their cars,” Hagström says. “So, with smart product design and innovative technology, we managed to shrink and adopt the solution to fit in cars and other vehicles – without performance loss.”

CabinAir’s two-stage combination is up to ten times more effective than a conventional, filter-only solution, and it’s especially effective against the very small and ultrafine airborne particles that are most harmful to health. It’s also highly effective at removing pollen and soot, which have a direct effect on breathing.

Prevents virus build-up with flow of purified outside air
“Our system traps the smallest, most harmful airborne pollutants, including viruses and bacterias, before they can get inside the cabin,” Hagström continues. “And unlike traditional systems that rely on recirculating increasingly stale interior air, our system provides a continuous flow of clean and fresh air. This prevents the levels of airborne viruses and bacteria – and drowsiness-inducing carbon dioxide – from building up.”

Proven in Volvo cars
CabinAir technology is already on the road in Volvo Cars, some of the world’s most highly regarded vehicles in terms of driver and passenger health and safety. “Our technology is already an integral part of Volvo Cars’ Advanced Air Cleaner (AAC) system,” Hagström says.

“And now, with Nordzone™ System, we have made our solution available for the aftermarket, making healthy air available to the billion vehicles already on the roads, including buses, trucks and other vehicles. Whether they are integrated at the factory or are replacing a standard cabin air filter, you can turn your vehicles into powerful air purifiers.”

Connected Health Zone Systems
“CabinAir’s solutions are optimized for vehicles, and together with best-in-class PM, CO2 and VOC sensors and AI processed air quality data, we can navigate drivers and passengers to healthy air in all traffic situations,” says Hagström.

About the CES Innovation Awards
The CES Innovation Awards program is an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products. The program recognizes honorees in a multitude of consumer technology product categories and distinguishes the highest rated in each. All entries are reviewed and scored based on the following criteria:
• Engineering and functionality
• Aesthetic and design
• What makes the product unique and innovative

The Vehicle Intelligence & Transportation category recognizes automotive and other transportation products and services that integrate technology into the driving or riding experience, whether by enhancing safety, navigation, improving the passenger experience or enabling self-driving functionality.

A panel of industry expert judges reviews applications in each product category based on the evaluation criteria above, and the top-scoring products are designated as honorees.

The CES Innovation Awards are based upon descriptive materials submitted to the judges. CTA did not verify the accuracy of any submission or of any claims made and did not test the item to which the award was given.
